Arsenal finishing fourth would mean more to me than England winning the Euros, admits Perry Groves – talkSPORT.com

Former Arsenal striker Perry Groves insists he would take the Gunners finishing fourth over England winning the European Championship.

In a debate with Sports Bar host Jason Cundy, Groves confessed that while he loves the Three Lions, his passion for Arsenal goes well beyond his attachment to the national side.

Many would agree with Groves if presented with the prospect of their club winning a major trophy, as Cundy pointed out.

But fourth over the Euros!? Come on!

Here’s what Groves had to say for himself: “I’d rather Arsenal came third or fourth in the Premier League than England win the Euros.

“In the progress of Arsenal as a team, to get better players, if you get in the Champions League, you can attract better players and make your team stronger.

“I love England and I want England to be successful, I love the way the country comes together.

“But the pain you get when you follow your club lasts a lot longer. If England don’t do particularly well, you get frustrated. After four or five days, that goes.

“My loyalty and focus is on my club’s success in the future going forward.”
