Arsenal are trying to make Dani Ceballos a permanent fixture at the Emirates, though could reportedly look into extending his loan from Real Madrid for a further season rather than buy him.

The Spaniard has made a big impression in north London since leaving Spain, playing in all eight Premier League games this season and earning a spot in the latest national team squad.

Ceballos’ loan move did not include an option to buy the midfielder outright, however, and El Confidential report that Arsenal are already putting the wheels in motions to correct that.

The 23-year-old is enjoying life in London and is happy with the role he has been given at Arsenal under Unai Emery, with little desire to go back to Real Madrid to sit on the bench.

El Confidential claim Arsenal chiefs have discussed ways to extend Ceballos’ stay and could encourage him to ask to spend a second season out on loan, with the Liga giants likely to demand a huge fee.

From Real’s end, they feel Ceballos is already talking as though he is a former player and would be willing to cash in next summer just as they did with Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

The Blues, though, were required to pay £40.3million in order to land the Croatian – a similar fee for Ceballos would make him Arsenal’s fourth most expensive player ever.

Ceballos recently admitted that he had not been enjoying his football under Zinedine Zidane at Real, having only played a bit-part role, and hinted at his desire to remain with the Gunners.

‘Going to Arsenal has been a very important step in my career,’ he told reporters after earning his call-up with Spain.

‘I don’t feel sorry for not being in Madrid. Right now I am where I want to be and I am very happy. My idea was to go out, play and enjoy football. In the previous two years I had not done so.

‘My goal is only to work to keep doing things right. I have eight months left at Arsenal, I can only thank them for the confidence that the coach and fans have placed in me, who have already made me a song. I am very happy there and I hope to continue for a long time.’
