‘It’s time’ – Arsenal fans tell Unai Emery to make decision on summer signing for Bournemouth – Football.London

Arsenal fans have found a new hero in Gabriel Martinelli with the summer signing making an excellent start to life in north London.

The Brazilian forward completed a transfer from Ituano FC to the Emirates this summer, with  Arsenal  technical director Edu using his contacts in his native country to seal a deal for the highly-rated 18-year-old.

Martinelli  has already made a big impression in north London, with Unai Emery including the teenager in Arsenal’s pre-season squad, before handing him a Premier League debut as a late substitute in the first game against Newcastle.

Martinelli found the net twice against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup third round, before scoring another brace against Standard Liege in Arsenal’s 4-0 win over the Belgians on Thursday, making it four goals in three appearances for the teenager since his move to the Emirates.

Speaking after the Europa League win, Emery heaped praise on his young forward.

“He played in the pre-season with us and every training he showed us he’s hungry to be with us and to have the opportunity to show his capacity,” he said.

“His patience is amazing. In pre-season he played in many positions, above all he prefers to play left winger, he also played as a right winger. I am using him as a striker because he played in that position in Brazil.

“It’s not the best position for him but the first thing in his mind is to help us and to achieve, with that opportunity, some minutes with us. Really, for example, I think his performance and aptitude were amazing tonight.”

The Gunners were not the only club who kept tabs on the talented striker before his switch to the Emirates, with Manchester United also previously keen.

Martinelli revealed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side invited him to train with them on four occasions in two years.

“Between 2015 and 2017 I went there four times and trained for about 15 days,” he said.

“I asked to take a picture with [Patrice] Evra, [Marouane] Fellaini and other guys.

“Pogba knew I was Brazilian and asked if everything was okay with me and where I was playing. We took a picture together.”

Martinelli’s incredible start to his Arsenal career is perhaps the polar opposite to fellow summer signing Nicolas Pepe.

The Ivorian has struggled to recapture the form he showed for Lille last season, and convinced Arsenal to spend £75m on him.

And some Arsenal supporters believe Martinelli’s form warrants a start in the Premier League, beginning with Bournemouth on Sunday.
