Gabriel Martinelli certainly made his mark at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night with two goals in the 5-0 win against Nottingham Forest.
The Brazilian forward, who joined the Gunners this summer, bagged a brace in the Carabao Cup third round tie, with the former Ituano teenager impressing for Unai Emery’s side against their Championship opponents.
His first goal was a great header from a superb cross from Calum Chambers, while his second was an eye-catching strike from distance to put the gloss on a fine display from the 18-year-old and Arsenal as a whole.
And former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock has likened the teenager’s second goal to what you would expect to see from Juventus and Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo.
Speaking on the Carabao Cup highlights programme on Quest, Warnock said: “Lovely ball in from [Calum] Chambers. He had a fantastic night with three assists, but [Gabriel] Martinelli showed a striker’s instinct to get on the end of it.
“And this one, probably got the whole of the Emirates off their seats. It was a moment of magic, it is what you look for and a [Cristiano] Ronaldo-esque strike.”
Meanwhile, Warnock said there were several positives for Arsenal on the night, in addition to Martinelli’s performance and goals, with the former Liverpool man discussing the importance of some players returning from injury in the game.
“We always talk about young players coming through and what is going to happen at the club,” he said.
“It was all about the senior players coming back, [Kieran] Tierney, [Rob] Holding with a goal, [Hector] Bellerin coming back and getting an assist. That was a huge night for Arsenal.”
The Gunners will now go on to face one of Warnock’s former sides in the fourth round, with a trip to face Liverpool at Anfield.

The last time Arsenal faced the Reds at Anfield in the League Cup, Warnock was on the field as Julio Baptista netted four times in a 6-3 victory for Arsene Wenger’s side.
But Warnock said the fourth round tie would be dependent on the two sides that are picked for the game, after both Jurgen Klopp and Unai Emery made several changes to their teams in the third round, with several youngsters given chances to impress.
