Mustafi was deemed surplus to requirements by Arsenal this summer after a calamitous three-year spell in north London, but the 27-year-old refused to leave amid strong interest from Serie A giants Juventus and Roma.
Though the Germany international is yet to make a single appearance in the Premier League this season, he has impressed in Arsenal’s cup competitions.
Mustafi played every minute as Arsenal beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 in the Europa League before Unai Emery handed him another start at home to Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.
He was relatively untested alongside the returning Rob Holding in central defence as the Gunners put five goals past Forest without conceding to reach the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
Clearly high on confidence after his recent performances, Mustafi was quick to remind fans of his worth as he directly responded to Arsenal supporter @Adewuyi_shola on Twitter.
‘I hate to say this but Shkodran Mustafi has played 2 games and kept 2 clean sheet,’ @Adewuyi_shola said.
Mustafi replied ‘Sorry for keeping the 2 clean sheets’ with an emoji suggesting he was less than impressed with the initial tweet.
Sorry for keeping the 2 clean sheets 😑

Earlier this month, Mustafi claimed Emery has promised him he will be ‘treated like any other player’ despite being told otherwise in the summer.
‘My dad talked to the club. I am a player of Arsenal and have another two years of contract,’ he said.
‘I was never the one who starts a war when something does not work out.
‘If something turns out, I’m open to taking the next step. If not, then I will continue my football.
‘The coach told me that he sees me the same way as any player in the team. That’s why I played today.
‘I do not want to say that this is not an issue. I have a wife and two children and that has to be sanctioned.
‘If at some point a club from Germany has interest and it fits, I’m open for it.’
