‘Trippier thought he could run’ – Arsenal fans love what Nacho Monreal did on Sociedad debut – Football.London

There was north London interest in one La Liga match on Saturday.

Real Sociedad took on Atletico Madrid in their newly refurbished Reale Arena.

And in the right-back position for both sides were players who left each north London club in the summer.

Kieran Trippier left Tottenham to rock up at Atletico Madrid during the summer, while late in the European transfer window, Nacho Monreal departed Arsenal to sign for Real Sociedad.

Having started the season with three straight wins, Atletico would have been favourites going into the match, up against a Sociedad side who had picked up a win, a draw and a defeat from their three matches.

And Trippier has enjoyed a fine start to life in La Liga too, earning plaudits for his displays for table-topping Atletico.

But Monreal, on his debut, inspired the home side to a 2-0 victory, handing Atletico their first defeat of the season.

The former Arsenal full-back scored the second goal on the night, with Trippier losing the battle of the north Londoners.

They took to Twitter to congratulate Monreal on scoring on his debut, but more importantly in getting one over on a former Tottenham player in the process.

There is sure to be a little bit more to play for from Trippier’s side when the two teams meet again later in the season.
