Arsenal loanee Mohamed Elneny didn’t have the best start to his career on loan at Besiktas.
The midfielder saw red just 75 minutes into his debut for the Turkish side, the Egypt international lashing out after being elbowed by his opponent, who also saw red for his part in the incident.
Besiktas went onto lose the game against Gazisehir by three goals to two, after also seeing defender Domagoj Vida sent off in just the sixth minute of the game.
Elneny signed a season long loan for Besiktas after falling down the pecking order at Arsenal under Unai Emery. The 27-year-old made just eight Premier League appearances last season, with most of them coming as cameos from the substitute bench.
He was described as a ‘modern day midfielder’ by former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who bought him to the club in January 2016.
“First and foremost, Elneny is a modern day midfielder,” he told beIN Sports .
“He will work hard for the team. He has a great technique. His physical attributes are also very important.
“His passes are also very direct and will help the team in attacking areas.”
Elneny was named in the starting lineup for Besiktas against Gazisehir, and would have been hoping to show his new fans what he could do, however, it didn’t quite go to plan.
Upon the news of the midfielder’s red card, Arsenal fans took to social media to give their reaction, with some claiming they never seen that side during his time at the Emirates.
Elneny will be hoping for a more successful time at the club for the rest of the season.
